It is recommended by the American Heart Association2 to deliver 10 breaths per minute (BPM) of 500-600ml in adult resuscitation. When activated, the valve restricts the refill of the bag to approximately 4 seconds, providing approximately 10 BPM to the patient, helping to eliminate the possibility of hyperventilation.
When the valve is activated, a one handed squeeze of the bag will deliver approximately 500-600ml to the patient. Alternatively, the valve can be switched to standard, removing the delayed refill and the BVM can be used as normal.
The VT Select is smaller than most adult bags at only 1200ml, which also helps to reduce the risk of hyperinflation or barotrauma.
